Lauterbrunnen, the name of an Alpine valley in the Swiss canton of Bern, through which flows the Weisse Lutschine, one of the principal feeders of the Aar. The valley is surrounded by perpendicular walls of sandstone from 1000 to 1600 feet in height, down which pour about a score of waterfalls. Of these the finest is the Staubbach ('dust-stream'), 866 feet in height.
