Lorca, a town of Spain, 36 miles S.W. of Murcia. The gloomy and decayed Moorish part of the town is picturesque situated on an eminence crowned by a fortified castle, whilst the modern town spreads out on the fertile plain at its foot. Here are salt-petre, gunpowder, and lead-smelting works, and manufactures of cloth, and in the neighbourhood silver and sulphur mines, &c. Pop. (1884) 28,422.
