Ludwigsburg, a town of Württemberg, 8 miles N. of Stuttgart. It grew up round a hunting castle founded in 1704 by Duke Eberhard Ludwig, is the second royal residence, and one of the principal garrison towns, of the kingdom; and has a military school and a royal castle, with picture-gallery and splendid gardens. Pop. (1885) 16,187. Ludwigsburg was the birthplace of D. F. Strassn, Justinus Kerner, Möricke, and Friedrich Vischer.
