Martigues, a town in the French department of Bouches-du-Rhône, is situated on several islands, united by bridges, at the entrance to the Etang de Berre, 20 miles NW. of Marseilles. From its position, it has been called the Provençal Venice. Pop. 4783, chiefly engaged in catching and curing fish and in shipbuilding.
