Megalosaurus

Chambers's Encyclopaedia, Volume 7: Maltebrun to Pearson, p. 122

Megalosaurus (Gr., 'great lizard'), a gigantic extinct reptile, whose remains are found in Jurassic and Cretaceous strata. The huge body seems to have measured about 30 to 50 feet in length, and the formidable teeth suggest a carnivorous diet. See REPTILES.
