Morat (Ger. Murten), a town of 2364 inhabitants, in the Swiss canton of Freiburg, 12 miles ESE. of Neuchâtel and 48 by rail NNE. of Lausanne, lies on the Lake of Morat (3\frac{1}{2} by 2 miles, 1428 feet above sea-level). Here, on 22d June 1476, the Swiss gained a victory over Charles the Bold, Duke of Burgundy.
