Nala is a legendary king of ancient India, whose love for Damayanti, the daughter of Bhima, king of Vidarbha, and the adventures arising therefrom, forms a celebrated episode of the Mahabharata (q.v.), as also of a separate poem, the Nalodaya, attributed to Kalidasa as its author.
