Oleometer, or ELAIOMETER, an areometer or balance for ascertaining the densities of fixed oils. It consists of a very delicate thermometer-tube, the bulb being large in proportion to the stem, so weighted and graduated as to adapt it to the densities of the leading fixed oils. On the scale is marked the principal oils of commerce, with their specific gravity opposite. The standard temperature of the oleometer is F. Those in general use are Gobby's and Lefebre's oleometers, Fisher's oil-balance, and Brix's areometer for lighter liquids.
