Ormskirk, a market-town of Lancashire, 12 miles NNE. of Liverpool. It has a grammar-school (1612); a parish church, with embattled tower and spire, and the burial-vault of the Earls of Derby; and manufactures of cordage, iron, silk, cotton, &c. Pop. (1851) 6183; (1881) 6651; (1891) 6298.
