Pallice, LA, a new harbour opened (1889) to receive large transatlantic and other ocean-going vessels bound for La Rochelle in France, whence it is less than 3 miles distant. It consists of an inner basin acres in extent and an outer harbour protected by two moles, each 1380 feet long.
