Peabody, a village and township of Massachusetts, 16 miles NNE. of Boston. Formerly called South Danvers, its name was changed in 1868 in honour of George Peabody, who was born here. The village contains the Peabody Institute, and the township has manufactories of carriages, leather, and glue. Pop. 10,158.
