Pierson, HENRY HUGO, composer, was born at Oxford in 1815, in 1844-45 filled the chair of Music in Edinburgh, and from 1846 lived in Germany, dying at Leipzig, 28th January 1873. Among his works were the music for the second part of Goethe's Faust, the operas Leila and Contarini, and the oratorios Jerusalem and Hezekiah.
