Poinsettia, a name given to the Mexican shrub Euphorbia pulcherrima, introduced into the horticulture of other lands by Joel Roberts Poinsett (1779-1851), U.S. minister to Mexico. It is remarkable for the large and conspicuous vermilion bracts below its yellowish flowers.
