Riom, a town of France (dept. Puy-de-Dôme), is picturesquely situated on a hill, 8 miles by rail N. of Clermont-Ferrand. It is built of dark lava, and is a perfect treasury of domestic architecture, especially of the Renaissance period. There is considerable trade, and tobacco, linen, and machinery are manufactured.
