Rod

Rod, called also a pole, or perch, a measure of length, equivalent to $5\backslash frac\{1\}\{2\}$ yards, or $16\backslash frac\{1\}\{2\}$ feet. The square rod, called generally a rood, is employed in estimating masonry-work, and contains $16\backslash frac\{1\}\{2\}\; \backslash times\; 16\backslash frac\{1\}\{2\}$, or $272\backslash frac\{1\}\{4\}$ square feet.
