Salaam (Selám, Arab. = Heb. Shalom, 'peace'), the general term of salutation among the Mohammedans; 'Es-selámu aleikum' ('Peace be with you'), (addressed only to the faithful) being answered by 'With you be peace, and the mercy of God, and His blessings!'
