Sanguisorbaceæ

Chambers's Encyclopaedia, Volume 9: Bound to Swansea, p. 147

Sanguisorbaceæ, or SANGUISORBEÆ, according to some botanists a natural order of plants, but more generally regarded as a sub-order of Rosaceæ (q.v.). About 150 species are known, all of which are herbaceous or half shrubby, some of them spiny. The leaves of Acena sanguisorba, a native of Van Diemen's Land, are said to be an excellent substitute for tea. Of British species Burnet (q.v.) is the best known.
