Sarsfield, PATRICK, Irish Jacobite, had fought abroad under Monmouth, and in England at Sedge-moor against him, when in 1688 he was defeated in the skirmish of Wineanton, and crossed over to Ireland (he was member for Dublin county). Created Earl of Lucan by James II., he drove the English out of Sligo, was present at the battles of the Boyne and Agrhim, defended Limerick (q.v.), and on its final capitulation in 1691 entered the service of France. He fought at Steenkirk (1692), and was mortally wounded at Neerwinden, 19th July 1693.
