Sea-bass, a name applied to some perch-like marine fishes—e.g. Cynoscion nobilis, an important food-fish on the western coasts of North America; Pogonias chromis, abundant off the coasts of Carolina, Florida, and the Gulf of Mexico; Centropristis fulvus and atrarius, along the eastern coasts of North America.
