Sliven (Turk. Islimia), or SELIMNIA, a town of East Roumelia, at the southern base of the Balkan Mountains, 70 miles N. by E. of Adrianople, is celebrated for its annual fair. Arms, cloth, and attar of roses are manufactured. Pop. (1895) 23,700.
