Sulphonal, a synthetical hypnotic now largely used, of highly complex composition, with the formula . It forms colourless tasteless crystals, very slightly soluble in cold water. For sleeplessness it is given in doses of 15 to 45 grains, but opinions differ as to the place it will ultimately take in medicine.
