Sūtra

Sūtra, in Sanskrit Literature, the technical name of aphoristic rules, and of works consisting of such rules. In such aphorisms the ground-works of the ritual, grammatical, metrical, and philosophical literature of India are written. See SANSKRIT, VEDA, PITAKA.
