Aberavon, or PORT TALBOT, a parliamentary and municipal borough and seaport, in Glamorgan, on the Avon, near its mouth in Swansea Bay, 32 miles W. of Cardiff. The valley of the Avon is shut in by lofty hills, while every available space is occupied by copper and iron works. Hence comes the metal of which our copper coinage is made. The town has a good harbour and docks. For parliamentary purposes, Aberavon is one of the Swansea boroughs. Pop. of municipal borough (1881) 4875; (1891) 6300.
