Arlon (anc. Orolanum), a town of Belgium, the capital of the province of Luxemburg, 27 miles WNW. of Luxemburg by rail. It is a neat and prosperous town, and has a considerable trade in corn, iron-wares, tobacco, crockery, and clay-pipes. The town is mentioned as early as 870; the nunnery of Clairefontaine, in the neighbourhood, is now a foundry. Pop. 7684.
