Barletta, a seaport of Italy, on the Adriatic, 34 miles NW. of Bari by rail. It carries on a large trade with Greece and the Adriatic ports. The town has a fine cathedral, an old colossal bronze statue (supposed to be the Emperor Heraclius), and ancient castle. Pop. 32,100.
