Baza, an old town of Spain, 50 miles ENE. of Granada. It lies in a fertile plain, has remains of Moorish fortifications, a sulphur-spring, and 11,828 inhabitants engaged in the production of wine, fruit, and hemp. The Basfia of the Romans, and Bastania of the middle ages, Baza under the Moors was a flourishing town, with a population of 50,000.
