Tron

Chambers's Encyclopaedia, Volume 10: Swastika to Zyrianovsk and Index, p. 303

Tron or TRONE weight, the most ancient system of weight used in Scotland, the trone being a heavy beam or balance set up in the market-place, and employed for the weighing of heavy wares. The tron lb. contained 20 oz., but, from the custom of giving 'one in' to the score, was always reckoned at 21 oz.; this was the most general value; but it varied in the different market-towns between this and 28 oz. The later tron stone or standard weight contains 16 tron lb., each lb. 16 tron oz., and each tron oz. 16 drops; the tron lb. is estimated to be equivalent to 1.3747 lb. avoirdupois. The name survives in several Scottish churches.
