Ursin (Erethizon dorsatus), a rodent nearly allied to the Porcupine, and often called the Canada Porcupine. About the size of a small hare, it differs from the porcupine in the flatter head, the shorter and not convex snout, the longer tail, and in having the short spines almost hidden by the long hair. It is found in the forests of Canada and the United States. Its quills are dyed by the Indian women, and used for ornamental purposes.
