Viotti, GIOVANNI BATTISTA (1753-1824), violinist and composer, born in Piedmont, studied in Turin, and in 1780 played in Germany, France, England, and Russia with eclat. He settled in Paris, but in 1795-1815 was in London, where, after another sojourn in Paris, he died. He composed concertos, sonatas, and stringed quartetts, and influenced musical taste by his own admirable playing and by his teaching.
