A detailed scientific illustration of a Volvox colony. It shows a spherical cluster of cells. The outer layer is composed of flagellated cells, indicated by a label 'c'. Inside, there are larger, more complex cells, some of which are labeled 'a' (female cells) and 'b' (stages in development of male cells). The cells are interconnected by fine, thread-like structures representing protoplasmic bridges.
