Water-deer, a name given to a small Chinese Musk-deer (q.v.) of aquatic habits; also in Africa to one of the Chevrotains (q.v.). The water-buck, formerly common in South Africa, was an antelope (Kobus ellipsiprymnus) much given to being about the edge of lakes and rivers, and with exceptional powers of swimming.
