Zoega, JOHANN GEORGE, archaeologist and Coptic scholar, was born in Jutland, 20th December 1755, studied at Göttingen, and finally settled at Rome, where he turned Catholic. He wrote on Egyptian coins and Roman bas-reliefs, and made a great catalogue of Coptic MSS. He died February 10, 1809. See Life by Welcker (1819).
