Zoepffel, RICHARD OTTO, a theologian of the school of Ritschl, was born at Arensburg in Livonia, June 14, 1843, taught theology at Göttingen, but settled in 1872 at Strasburg, where he became ordinary professor in 1877, and died 7th January 1891. His books are Die Papstwahl (1871) and Johannes Sturm (1887). In conjunction with Holtzmann he edited the Lexikon für Theologie und Kirchenwesen (1882; 2d ed. 1888-91).
