Benicia, capital of Solano county, California, and formerly capital of the state, is situated on the Carquinez Strait, which connects the San Pablo and Suisun bays, 30 miles NE. of San Francisco. It has a commodious harbour, and is the seat of the United States arsenal for the Pacific coast. Cement, leather, and flour are manufactured, and the town contains several educational establishments, including St Augustine's Theological School. Pop. 2361.
