Bobbio, a Lombard town, 3 miles SSE. of Pavia, near the confluence of the Bobbio and the Trebbia. Bobbio originated from a monastery founded here in 612 by St Columbanus (q.v.), whose famous library has mostly found its way to the Vatican. Since 1014 it has been the seat of a bishopric. Pop. 4635.
