Bondu, a country of Senegambia, West Africa, to the W. of Bambouk, lying between 14°-15° N. lat. and 12°-13° W. long. The surface of Bondu is mostly level, the climate healthy, and vegetation luxuriant alike in field and forest. The inhabitants, who are chiefly Fulahs, profess Mohammedanism, but they trust greatly in sorcerers. The sovereign is absolute. When Park, the first European to visit Bondu, was in the country, the royal residence was at Fatteconda; since, it has been removed to Bulibani, a place of 3000 inhabitants, on the principal river, the Falemé. The country is now a French dependency. Pop. 30,000—50,000.
