Cajamarca, a department in the NW. of Peru, between the western chain of the Andes and the Amazon. A railway connects it with the Pacific, and there is a large farming and cattle-raising industry. Area, 14,188 sq. m.; pop. about 250,000. The capital is Cajamarca; pop. 12,000.
