Casale, a city of Northern Italy, on the right bank of the Po, 21 miles NNW. of Alessandria by rail. It has a cathedral and several other interesting churches, the Torre del grand' Orologio, some fine palazzi, and manufactures of silk. In 1474 it became the capital of the marquise of Montferrat (q.v.). Pop. 17,096.
