Dentaria

Chambers's Encyclopaedia, Volume 3: Catarrh to Dion, p. 761

Dentaria, or CORAL-ROOT (both names due to knobby root-stock), is a small genus of Cruciferae, represented in Britain by the rare D. bulbifera, in which the upper leaves bear Bulbils (q.v.), while the pods rarely ripen. The root-stock being pungent, was formerly dried as a remedy for toothache. D. diphylla, a North American species, is called Pepper-root from the same property. The name Coral-root is also applied to the orchid Corallorrhiza, while the true Toothwort (q.v.) is Lathraea squamaria.
