Dübereiner, JOHANN WOLFGANG (1780-1849), professor of Chemistry in Jena, and friend of Goethe, is remembered for what is called Dübereiner's Lamp, a piece of platinum sponge which ignites a jet of a mixture of oxygen and hydrogen or of common air directed on it.
