Durbar (Persian darbār, 'court,' 'audience'), a state reception of the Governor-general of India or one of the native princes. Specially memorable is the great durbar held by Lord Lytton at Delhi on 1st January 1877, when Queen Victoria was proclaimed Empress of India.
