Elm, a village of Switzerland, at the head of a mountain-girt valley in the canton of Glarus, with 1000 inhabitants when, in 1881, the whole of the northern side of Tshingel Peak (10,230 feet) crashed down upon it, destroying a large part of it, and filling the narrow valley with the debris of the landslip.
