Maeterlinck, MAURICE, was born at Ghent in 1864, and became known to the world of Paris in 1890 by a play, La Princesse Maleine. Other plays are L'Intruse, Les Aveugles, Pelleus et Melisande, and Aglavaine et Selysette (all translated into English); and he has shown his religious sympathies by a translation into modern Flemish of Ruysbroeck the Mystic (1891).
