Sowerby Bridge, a manufacturing town in the West Riding of Yorkshire, on the Calder, 3 miles SW. of Halifax. It has a town-hall (1857) and manufactures of worsted and cotton, oilcloth, chemicals, iron, &c. Tillotson was a native of the parish. Pop. (1851) 4365; (1891) 10,408.
